Craft 60

Sharing IS caring!

I have always loved to do crafts since I was in school.  My grandma taught me how to crochet and knit—I am just OK at those.  I have taught my daughters and now my granddaughter and grandson how to do crafts.  We have been to many craft shows, and have seen all the wonderful ideas that are out there.  I love the colors and textures that are used...different mediums, and combinations that I would have never thought to use together.  We have also been able to learn from those teaching a class.

My favorite part of the craft industry is the generosity I have seen in regards to helping others in the community.  DCWV is one of those that has embraced this idea by sharing wonderful papers and project ideas with my grandson's low income preschool classroom.  Making the required family picture album has turned into an artisitic adventure, now shared with parent and child.  Parents have taken the time to sit in the classroom preparing pages with their child.  Our teacher, Mrs. McGinnish, has seen an increase in participation from the dads too!  Once they see the exciting designs to chose from, they are ready to jump in.  Mrs. McGinnish has also been able to pay it forward to another low-income school by sharing her donation with them.

That is what it is all about...sharing with others who will learn a new skill or idea they can pass on.  Crafting has come a long way and I am happy to be a part of it.  Sometimes it only starts with one person sharing a skill, just like my grandma did with me.
