Craft 60

Giving together to others

Crafts have always been a part of my life.  Ever since I can remember we were doing craft projects with my mom, my aunt, and when we were at school.  I learned that a hot glue gun can glue things faster than you can!!  And I ended up with feathers attached to my clothes, in my hair, and even on my arms.  But I didn’t care because I had SO MUCH FUN.  The best part of crafts for me was that I always enjoyed it.  There was never a bad moment.  I always knew that I would pass on what I knew to my children, nieces and nephews, friends kids, and even my friends because I feel that everyone should know how to craft.

I had the privilege of meeting DCWV at a craft show and I loved everything about them.  I loved them even more when I found out that they do a lot for the community.  I was so excited!  The children in my daughter Lillie’s school did not know that crafts and craft supplies existed beyond construction paper and Elmer’s glue.  DCWV helped by donating and sending supplies and ideas to her teacher.  The kids went CRAZY!  They were so excited when they found out that you can turn an ordinary piece of paper into things like thank you cards for mom and dad, bookmarks, and scrapbook pages.  They were able to use the supplies DCWV sent as well as I showed them rhinestones, glue dots, and adhesive paint.  They really enjoyed picking their paper and turning it into a card for their parents and decorating it.  They each made a couple cards and then asked if they could take some home.  They wanted to show their mom and dad how to make cards as well.  So not only did the children learn something but they had so much fun that they wanted to pass it on.  The teacher was going to pass on some to other teachers and she was going to keep some to show the next class coming in the next year.

That’s what is so wonderful about crafts.  No matter the age, you learn something new or you learn how to do something a different way.  Crafting is a wonderful way for children to use their imagination as well as learn new things that they can use later on in life. It is an experience that you never forget.  And I know a classroom of children that will definitely never forget thanks to the generosity of DCWV.
