Andrea: where it all started

The motto I have listed on my (much neglected) blog is:  If life is art, then the art of my life would be filled with my family, faith, good food, and beautiful music. I believe that everyone needs to have a creative outlet, and my medium of choice is paper!

Some of my fondest memories involve working with my hands, creating something new, alongside someone I love. I remember my very patient grandmother teaching me over and over how to knit and crochet, which at the time only amounted to me making little tube dresses for my barbies! My mother is quite talented in the art of watercolor and a gifted seamstress. She taught me not only how to sew, but also how to use a diversity of color, patterns, and textures in my creations.

I don't know if I could be so bold as to call my creations art, but I do feel like I am putting a little piece of myself in everything I make. It means a lot to me when my hand-madeables are appreciated, but I think it means even more when I am able to inspire creativity in others. I have had the opportunity to teach papercrafting in a number of different settings - on my blog, at the YMCA, at Jo-Ann, churches, and of course in my own home to friends and family. It is always a pleasure because it brings people and creativity together. And the legacy continues - my children are finding their chosen medium for creativity. My oldest daughter is a budding photographer, and my second has recently discovered crocheting and quilling. My son mostly makes a mess, but that's OK. They all know they are allowed to use whatever they want in my craft room as long as they clean up after themselves. It happens most of the time. ;-)
